Live location

Getting Started with Live Location 

Planning a family trip? Meeting up with friends? Or just making sure your parents know you're safe on the way home? With Live location on Arattai, staying connected is super easy, and live!

Prerequisites  
  • Your device must allow Arattai to access your location, set to "Always".
  • stable internet connection is required throughout the sharing duration for accurate live tracking.

Share your live location:  
  • Open any chat (group or personal).
  • Tap the “+” icon on the left of the message bar.
  • Choose  Location → Share live location.



  • Ensure to allow Arattai to access your location.
  • Pick how you want to share:
    • Till I reach - stops sharing automatically once you arrive.
    • Set a duration - choose a time limit: 15 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, or 8 hours. (You can modify this time anytime after sharing.)
  • Enter any caption if needed.
  • Hit Share. You’re now sharing your live route.
  • Live location can be shared on multiple chats at the same time.
  • Your live location status will appear as Sharing live location on a tab at the top of your chat list.

Live location in group chats:  
  • Multiple members can share their live locations.
  • Everyone’s live route appears on the same shared map.
  • You can track all movements together. Super handy for group trips or meetups!
  • Proximity alerts work here. Anyone in the group can set an alert, and we will notify you when your friends are nearby.

Live location map visual details:  
  • While location sharing is active, a dotted line connects your current location to your selected destination.
  • After the trip ends, the map shows the dotted line from your starting point to the destination.
  • After location sharing ends, you can still view:
    • Start point and the destination reached
    • Total distance covered
    • Time taken to reach the destination

Note : 
  1. If a person leaves a group while sharing their location, their live sharing automatically ends as they are no longer a part of the group.
  2. Live location sent or received cannot be forwarded.

Share your live location:

What you can view  
Live location:  
  • You can track someone’s movement live on the map while their live location is active.
  • Click on their profile pin on the map to see their journey.   
  • If they have sent a Till I reach location, a line connects their current location to their destination on your map.
  • Place your cursor on the profile pin to view the distance between you and the person. (This requires allowing Arattai to access your location on the browser.)

After live location ends: 
Once the live location ends, the map will display the complete trip overview:
  • Starting point and destination
  • Start and end time
  • Time taken to reach
  • Distance covered

Note : 
  1. Sharing your location is currently not available on Arattai Web. To send your location, please use the Arattai mobile app.
  2. If a person leaves a group while sharing their location, their live sharing automatically ends as they are no longer a part of the group.
  3. Live location sent or received cannot be forwarded.

Till I Reach  

Using 'Till I reach' for destination-based sharing  
‘Till I Reach’ lets you share your location based on where you're headed, not just how long you're on the move. Unlike fixed timers, it stops sharing automatically when you arrive.

Prerequisites  
  • Your device must allow Arattai to access your location, set to "Always".
  • A stable internet connection is required throughout the sharing duration for accurate live tracking.

How to share:  
  • Open any chat (group or personal).
  • Tap the “+” icon on the left of the message bar.
  • Choose  Location → Share live location → Till I reach.
  • Search for the destination, pin it manually, or select a saved location.
  • Hit Share.
  • Your live location will now be shared until you reach your destination.
  • Sharing stops automatically once you arrive.
  • Location shared using Till I reach ends automatically in 24 hours.

When someone shares using Till I reach:  
  • Open the live location shared in the chat window.
  • Tap their name on the tab below.
  • A switcher icon (a pin with their profile picture) appears, showing the current location by default.
  • Tap the profile picture pin once to view the destination.
  • Tap again to switch back to their current location.

Note: Live Location using 'Till I reach' will automatically stop once you're within 100 meters of your selected destination.

Managing Live Location  

Managing live location sharing  
You’re in full control, even after hitting share. Arattai lets you stop location sharing anytime, extend or shorten the duration, and set Proximity alerts to get notified when someone’s nearby. Whether your plans shift or you just want to stay flexible, managing live location is quick, real-time, and totally in your hands.

1. Modify Time  
  • Open the live location you've shared.
  • Tap on the time duration shown at the bottom right of your screen.
  • Change your location sharing time.
  • Hit Confirm.
  • Your sharing time will now get updated.

2. Proximity Alert  
  • Open the live location shared to you.
  • Tap the 🔔 Bell icon.
  • Choose the proximity radius - 250m, 500m, 1km or 2km.
  • Hit Set.
  • You will receive a notification when your friends enter your chosen radius.
  • Each user must set their own proximity alerts. It is not shared both ways.
  • Other users will not be notified when you set an alert.

3. Stop Sharing  
  • Open your chat list.
  • You'll find a live location sharing banner at the top of your chat list.
  • This tab is only visible while you are sharing your live location.
  • Tap the banner → Stop.
  • Your live location sharing ends immediately. No need to search for it within chats!
