Prerequisites
Stable Internet: A stable internet connection is required for smooth functioning and real-time syncing across linked devices.
Primary Device: Your primary device must be online in order to link a companion device.
What are Companion Devices?
Companion devices let you use Arattai on additional devices while staying connected to your main account.
Your primary device securely shares a copy of your recent end-to-end encrypted messages with companion devices.
To view or search your full chat history, use your primary device.
Available companion devices
You can link the following as companion devices:
Mobile devices
Tablets
Desktop apps
Web sessions
Each companion device lets you send and receive messages independently.
Note:
You can link up to 4 companion devices at a time.
Your primary device doesn’t need to stay online to use Arattai on linked devices. However, if you don’t use your primary device for over 14 days, all linked devices will be signed out.
Linked devices (Windows, Mac, and Web) cannot be set or used as the primary device for an account.
There are no feature-level restrictions on companion devices. You can send and receive messages normally.
How to Link a Companion Device
Link Mobile Device
Open Arattai on the new device you would like to link as a companion device.
Sign in using the phone number linked with your account.
Verify yourself using the SMS OTP.
You will then be asked to bring your primary device online to transfer messages.
Open the Arattai app on your primary device and make sure it is connected to the internet.
Copies of your recent end-to-end encrypted messages will be shared with the new device.
Link Arattai Web
Link either by scanning QR or sign in using mobile number.
1. Scan QR
Scan the QR code displayed on your web browser.
Once the QR code is successfully scanned, your Arattai Web session will automatically log in.
2. Sign in using phone number
Click Sign in using your mobile number.
Type your mobile number and click Next.
You will receive an OTP via SMS.
The OTP will be valid for 15 minutes.
If you face any issues or if the OTP expires, tap Resend OTP to receive it again.
Enter the 7 digit code and tap Verify to sign in.
How to Unlink a Companion Device
Open Arattai on your primary device
Go to Settings → Devices & Sessions
Select the companion device you want to remove.
Tap Terminate session.
The selected device will immediately lose access to your Arattai account.
How to Set a New Primary Device
If you want to change your primary device, tap Set this device as primary on the new device.
When you do this:
Your current primary device will be replaced.
You’ll be signed out from all other active sessions.
Encrypted messages on your previous primary device will be permanently lost.
