About the Mentions

Mentions are used to directly tag someone so they get notified and know the message is meant for them. Mentioning a participant ensures they receive a notification for that specific message, often overriding their group chat mute settings.
Mentions are only available within Group Chats. They cannot be used in one-on-one chats or channels. To initiate a mention, you must begin typing the @ symbol in the message input field.
All your @mentions are listed in a dedicated Mentions screen for easy access. Your @mentions will be listed there for 180 days and will be deleted automatically.

How to Mention a Participant

  • Open the Group Chat where you wish to send the message.
  • In the message input field, type the @ symbol
  • A list of all group members will appear.
  • Begin typing the participant's name or scroll through the list.

FAQs

1. Why can I only use mentions in group chats?
Mentions are designed for directing messages to specific members within a group conversation. They are not supported in one-on-one chats or channels.

2. Will a participant receive a notification when I mention them?
Yes. A mention is delivered as a regular message notification. Currently there are no separate notification alerts for mentions.

3. Can I mention someone who is not a member of the group?
No. You can only mention participants who are currently part of the group. If someone leaves or is removed, they cannot be mentioned.

4. Can I mention multiple participants in one message?
Yes. You can mention more than one participant by adding separate @mentions within the same message.

5. Will other members be able to see when I am mentioned?
Yes. Mentions are visible to all group members, but only the mentioned participant can access them in their personal Mentions list.

6. Can I delete a message where I mentioned someone?
Yes. If you delete the message for everyone, the mention will also be removed, and it will no longer appear in the Mentions list for any participant.
