2. Manual backups
You can choose whether to include media files such as photos, videos, voice notes, and documents in your backups.
Including media allows complete restoration of chats and attachments.
Excluding media reduces backup size, but attachments will not be restored.
Encrypted Backup
You can add an additional layer of security by encrypting your chat backups. When encryption is enabled, backups are encrypted on your device before being uploaded to the cloud.
Android
Tap the
more menu. Go to Settings → Chats.
Tap Chat backup.
Tap Encrypted Backup.
Your backup will be encrypted before it is uploaded to Google Drive.
iOS
Your backup will be encrypted before it is uploaded to iCloud.
⚠ Important
Make a note of your backup key or recovery code in a safe place. It is required to restore chats from an encrypted backup.
Arattai does not store this information and cannot help recover encrypted backups if the key or recovery code is lost.
Backup Storage and Size
Backup size depends on the number of messages and media files in your chats.
Text messages use very little storage.
Media files such as photos, videos, and documents account for most of the backup size.
Larger backups may take longer to upload and may use more data.
Android - Google Drive
Backups are stored in Google Drive and count toward your Google storage quota. If your Drive storage is full, the backup may fail.
iPhone - iCloud
Backups are stored in iCloud and count toward your iCloud storage quota. At least 2× the backup size must be available for the backup to complete successfully.
